For many people, booking a professional photography session can feel exciting — and a little intimidating.

One of the first things clients tell me is:

“We’re awkward in front of the camera.”

The truth is, almost everyone feels that way at first.

That’s why my approach to photography is centered around creating a calm, relaxed experience that feels more like spending time together than standing stiffly in front of a lens.

As a Sonoma County photographer specializing in natural portraiture, family photography, branding sessions, and documentary-inspired storytelling, my goal is to create images that feel authentic to you — not overly posed or forced.

Before Your Session

Every session begins with a conversation.

We’ll discuss:

the overall vision

location ideas

wardrobe guidance

timing

personality and energy

what you want your images to feel like

Some clients want windswept coastal imagery.

Others want cozy vineyard light, redwoods, open fields, downtown textures, or quiet moments at home.

Together, we choose a location that supports your story.

Golden Hour Makes a Difference

Most outdoor sessions are scheduled around golden hour — the hour before sunset or shortly after sunrise.

This soft Northern California light creates:

  • flattering skin tones
  • warmth
  • dimension
  • softness
  • cinematic atmosphere

It’s one of the reasons Sonoma County photographs so beautifully year-round.

You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose

This is probably the biggest concern people have.

You do not need modeling experience.

Throughout the session, I gently guide movement and interaction in a way that feels natural and easy. Instead of stiff poses, I often encourage:

  • walking
  • talking
  • movement
  • connection
  • playfulness
  • interaction with the environment

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is presence.

Sessions Are Designed to Feel Relaxed

Especially with children, families, or couples, I intentionally leave space for spontaneity.

Some of the best photographs happen:

  • between poses
  • during laughter
  • while fixing hair
  • while holding a child
  • during quiet pauses

As a documentary-inspired Sonoma County portrait photographer, I’m always watching for those real moments that tell a deeper story.

What Happens After the Session

After your session, I carefully review and edit your images to maintain a timeless, natural aesthetic.

My editing style focuses on:

  • authentic color
  • emotional warmth
  • natural skin tones
  • preserving atmosphere and environment

You’ll receive a curated gallery of final images designed to feel cohesive, emotional, and lasting.

More Than Just “Pretty Photos”

For me, photography has always been about memory, connection, and storytelling.

Whether I’m photographing:

  • families
  • creatives
  • wellness brands
  • small businesses
  • farms
  • retreats
  • personal portraits

my goal is the same:

to create imagery that feels human, grounded, and emotionally true.
